What We Believe

GOD
We believe that there is one true and living God, who has always and will always exist in three distinct persons—God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit—who are of one substance, nature and purpose; equal in power and glory.

THE BIBLE
We believe that the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are the true and authoritative Word of God.  We further believe that the Bible is our only means of knowing about God, about His provision for us, and about what He requires of us.

JESUS CHRIST
We believe that Jesus Christ is the unique and eternal Son of God, the second person of the Trinity.  He emptied Himself of His glory to become a man, but at no time ceased to be God.  His human nature was conceived by the Holy Spirit in the Virgin Mary.

JESUS CHRIST’S WORK
We believe that Christ entered into human history to destroy the works of the Devil, to redeem His people from their bondage to sin and death, and to reveal the glory of God.   He accomplished this through his life of perfect obedience, His suffering and sacrificial death on the cross, and His resurrection from the dead.

Jesus Christ willingly gave himself to die on the cross in order to satisfy divine justice and to atone for man’s sin.  His death is the only means by which sinful people can be reconciled to a holy God.

Jesus was in the grave for three days, was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit and, after appearing to many, ascended into heaven where he now intercedes for us.

THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST
Jesus promised that he would return to gather His people to Himself.  We believe that this return will be visible and personal.  Christ's return will serve the twofold purpose of gathering the godly and of destroying all evil.

As Christ’s bride, the Church should look forward to His return with great anticipation, for it is our "blessed hope.”  Though the exact day and time of Christ's coming is unknown, the “times and seasons” are known to the church.  Christ’s sudden appearing will catch unbelievers totally unaware; believers, on the other hand, will not be surprised.  The Lord's return will be sudden.  This does not mean, however, that it can take place at "any moment."  The preaching of the gospel throughout the earth, the appearance of the "man of sin," etc. must precede Christ’s return.  The Lord's coming, however, is impending for the time of it is surely near.

MAN
We believe that all humanity is God’s creation.  Mankind, male and female, was created in God’s image; possessing knowledge, righteousness, and holiness.  Adam and Eve, our first parents, disobeyed the expressed will of God and, as a result, both they and their offspring fell into a state of misery and separation from God.  Apart from the work of Christ, men continue in that helpless and hopeless condition.

THE CHURCH
We believe that the church consists of all the people of all ages who have been called to faith in the true and living God.  The visible church is the body of believers that is living on the earth at any given time, along with their children.  The church is Christ’s and He is its Head, its Redeemer, its Builder, and its Sustainer.  The functions of the church are: to exalt the name of the true and living God, to proclaim the gospel of Christ to the unbelieving world, to minister to the helpless and hopeless, and to work toward the perfecting and equipping of believers for service.

THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe that the Holy Spirit—the Spirit of Christ—is God; the third person of the Trinity, equal to the Father and the Son in power and glory.  It is by His power that God’s people are made spiritually alive and are enabled to respond in faith to the call of Christ.  The Holy Spirit is the indwelling presence of God in the believer's life.  He provides supernatural illumination so we can understand the Word and the will of God.  He also provides the power that enables us to live according to that will.

SPIRITUAL GIFTS
We strongly believe that God, through His indwelling Holy Spirit, sovereignly gifts all believers for service.  It is the Holy Spirit who enables the effective proclamation of the good news as well as its reception.  It is by His power, never by the strength or wisdom of man, that the church is able to perform Christ-honoring fruitful ministry.

SATAN
Satan is one of God's creatures, an angel of the highest order.  We believe that he succumbed to pride and rebelled against his Creator.  His purpose is to subvert the perfect plan of God and, through deceit, to draw mankind into his rebellion.  It was through Satan's temptation of our first parents that sin and death entered into the world.  Satan's defeat is sure.  Hell was created for the Devil (Satan) and his angels.

THE DOCTRINES OF GOD’S GRACE
We believe that every person, in his natural state, is dead in sin and unresponsive to God.  The Holy Spirit graciously gives new life to men so that they can comprehend the gospel, repent of sin, and, through faith, receive the benefits of Christ’s atoning work.

We believe that salvation is not grounded upon the good works or honorable intentions of man; salvation is based solely on the grace and the purpose of God; we are saved by grace through faith in the righteous works of Christ.

We believe that, by His own choice, the Lord Jesus lived in obedience, died, and rose again to rescue His people from condemnation.

We believe that everyone that God calls to new life will be able to receive it.

We believe that God is able to keep those He has called until the end.  His people are both called and kept by His divine grace and power.
